Jean Paul Gaultier's Amy Winehouse Tribute Show

Jean Paul Gaultier decided to do a tribute to remember Amy Winehouse and her style during his S/S runway show this week. Many of the fashion pieces seen on the runway were inspired by Amy's style as well as the hair and makeup. Gaultier himself said “She was an icon of fashion and truly, the sense of how she mixed the clothes — it was great,” I think it was a really cool idea and was a great tribute. However, Amy's own father is not happy with the runway show and told The Sun that “We’re still grieving for her loss, and we’ve had a difficult week with the six-month anniversary of Amy’s death. To see her image lifted wholesale to sell clothes was a wrench we were not expecting, or consulted on. It portrays a view of Amy when she was not at her best, and glamorizes some of the more upsetting times in her life,Now, it probably would have been a good idea to get the okay before doing the show, but I don't think this was some sort of gimmick to make more money; simply a tribute to Amy and her style. I think it was tastefully done and the models and pieces look great.
What do you think?

Coloured Hair

Lately it seems like unconventional hair colour has become a fashion trend! It used to just be seen on 'punk' kids etc but now you can see it in high fashion magazines and on celebrities! Personally I'm a fan of the trend for the most part if done right. I still can't stand it when you see someone who dyed their hair pink and it becomes a washed out mess with nasty roots. But here are some examples of coloured hair done right!
Selena Gomez

 Kate Bosworth

Lady GaGa

Katy Perry

Dakota Fanning

 Audrey Kitching

What do you think of the trend? Would you add some colour to your hair?

Soy Candles by Diamond Candles

I love candles and especially scented ones that smell when you burn them. There are tons of scented candles but some of them when you actually burn them don't smell like anything :S. My favourite candles are from Bath and Body Works, but today I came across these really cool candles online.
These candles come with something extra special; not just a great scent. They come with a ring inside! It's like getting one of those mystery bags at cheap jewelry stores or candy stores, but the prize could be worth much more in these candles! Now they say the ring can be anywhere from $10 and up with some rings being worth over a $1000! Obviously those ones are pretty rare, but it's still exciting to see what you get! Some of the rings are pretty nice, but other ones are kind of ugly haha. I guess it's just a game of luck!
Clearly that woman on the bottom has bought a lot haha. The candles are also made out of soy which is interesting. If you want to get your own go to Diamond Candles.

Benefit Boi-ing Concealer

I thought I would feature one of my favourite makeup items: Benefit Boi-ing Concealer. At first I wasn't that interested in this product because it came with kind of a hefty price tag (for me anyway). But I decided to try it a few years ago when I was at Sephora. I was amazed at how well the concealer helped reduce the darkness under my eyes. I highly recommend this concealer not only for the under eye region but also for anywhere else on your face. But if you wake up with circles under your eyes quite a bit this is the perfect makeup item for you! It can help cover up other blemishes or imperfections too. You can get it at Sephora or BenefitCosmetics.com/ and it comes in 3 shades that blend in really well.

Asian Glazed Drumsticks

Lately I've been trying to cook healthier, so I created a board on Pinterest to post healthy recipes on to. This week I actually decided to try one of those recipes, and I chose the Asian Glazed Drumsticks from Skinny Taste. They were quite delicious and relatively easy to make. I would definitely make these again! Here's the recipe:
  • 8 medium chicken drumsticks, skin removed
  • olive oil spray
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 tbsp Sriracha hot sauce (more or less to taste)
  • 1/2 cup balsamic vinegar
  • 1/2 cup soy sauce
  • 4 tsp agave nectar (or sugar)
  • 3 cloves garlic, crushed
  • 1 tsp ginger, grated
  • 2 tbsp chives or scallions (I used green onions), chopped
  • 1 tsp sesame seeds

In a heavy large saucepan, brown chicken on high for 3-4 minutes with a little spray oil. Add water, balsamic, soy sauce, agave, garlic, ginger, hot sauce and cook on high until liquid comes to a boil. Reduce heat to low and simmer, covered for about 20 minutes. Remove cover and bring heat to high, allowing sauce to reduce down, about 8-10 minutes, until it becomes a thick glaze, turning chicken occasionally. (Keep an eye on glaze, you don't want it to burn when it starts becoming thick) Transfer chicken to a platter and pour glaze on top. Top with chives and sesame seeds and serve.

Enjoy!

Fashion Wants

I shouldn't have done this, but I love the website LuLus.com and when I was looking at another blog there was an ad for LuLus, and being the idiot I am I clicked on it. The reason it's a bad idea is because I promised myself I wouldn't buy anything online until I got a new job! So I'm basically just torturing myself. But anyway, I decided a new healthy way to curb my online shopping addiction would be to post items I like on here instead of actually buying them :). So here are my fashions wants from LuLus:

Harper's Bazaar Indonesia Spread

I love this Harajuku inspired fashion spread so much! I love anything that's Japanese pretty much like all the cute (kawaii) stuff in the spread! And I especially love the appearances from Hello Kitty!

Delicious and Healthy Smoothie!

I finally got a chance to try this smoothie recipe that I found on The Londoner. It's packed with tons of healthy fruits and then also spinach! That might not sound super appetizing but you honestly can't even taste the spinach.
Here's the recipe if you want to try it for yourself:
Ice
One banana
One kiwi
Handful of frozen tropical fruit
Handful of grapes
Three handfuls of spinach
Splash of orange juice

And there you go! Super easy and good for you :)

Too Skinny?

Makes a good point! So many celebrities and models are way too skinny these days!

Music Feature: Lana Del Rey

I'm probably a little behind on this but I'm currently obsessed with Lana Del Rey! The first time I heard of her was on MTV when they featured her video for Born to Die on one of their commercials. Watch it below (I also think the guy is hot haha).
A friend also shared her music video with me and I started to hear about her a bit online. It wasn't until today that I actually decided to look into her a bit more and bough her music off iTunes. Ever since then I've been listening to her on repeat! She has a great voice; it's gritty and deep but can also be very almost angelic at times. Also a little tidbit; her single Born to Die is the free single of the week on iTunes! Get it here. I definitely feel like she is going to blow up, even though she has been getting some negative criticism for her appearance on SNL. You can watch those performances here. I don't think she did horrible, but I can see why she has gotten some backlash for it. She's obviously nervous which you can't really blame her for! She could use some more stage presence for sure. I also love this cover of her for Interview magazine:
Her first album hasn't even come out yet and there's already tons of hype around her. It finally comes out on January 30 and I will definitely be buying it!

Proof that Kim Kardashian is a Fake!

This really is the last thing Kim needs right now since the whole world has back lashed against her, but now there is photographic proof that Kim and her mother staged a pivotal scene in their show. The scene is the moment where Kim admits to her mother that there may be something wrong with her marriage. To watch it click here. Now obviously we're supposed to believe that this scene was filmed before Kim filed for divorce, but if you compare Kim's outfit, hair, and makeup to the same in the picture below (which was taken on December 7, 2011- two weeks after Kim filed for divorce), you can tell this whole scene was just staged. I would find it much harder to believe Kim would wear the same outfit twice than that this scene was staged!
Everything about Kim is just so pathetic at this point. She clearly is just trying to draw sympathy from everyone because she knows everyone pretty much hates her at this point, but it just blew up in her face like it should. Something as serious as marriage and divorce should not be taken so lightly and she deserves everything that has come to her!

Golden Globes Fashion: Best and Worst Dressed

Another award show so another best and worst dressed post! The Globes are a huge fashion night so it's important to pull out your best at them! Some people did it perfectly, while others tried but fell flat. Here are my choice for best and worst dressed:
Best Dressed:
 Nicole Richie
I love Nicole and usually love her fashion choices. The Globes was no exception. It's not my favourite of her looks but it still looks great on her. It could use a little more oomph though.
Nicole Kidman
Usually not a fan of her fashion choices but I love the fit and detailing on this dress.
Mila Kunis
I think Mila is one of the most gorgeous girls in the Hollywood so usually she can do no wrong in my eyes. I love this dress but she was very close to a wardrobe malfunction! Love that she took the risk though.
Michelle Williams
If I could make a so-so dressed list she would be one it but I chose to go with best dressed this time. I hate velvet so that brings this dress down a few notches but I do love the color and the print. It could use a better neckline though.
Sofia Vergara
To me this is the type of dress meant for the Golden Globes! It definitely has the wow factor and fits her perfectly.
Zooey Deschanel
Still somewhat undecided on this one. She's a beautiful girl and the dress is okay... not my favourite though.
 Shailene Woodley
This dress just looks so delicate and I love the detailing of it. Fits very well too! It could almost be a wedding gown.
Selma Hayek
Possibly my favourite of the night. The top is fabulous. Looks almost Egyptian to me.
Sarah Hyland
Another favourite of the night. The dress looks old Hollywood. I absolutely love the lace and the black belt perfects the whole ensemble. Gorgeous hair too!
Evan Rachel Wood
I love this one! She looks like a mermaid mixed with a peacock!
Charlize Theron
This dress would have been better without the cinched fabric of the cutout leg but overall I still like it. She kind of looks like a ballerina.
Jessica Alba
Again gorgeous detailing and I love the colour!
Emma Stone
Much better than at the People's Choice Awards! Really like the colour and the belt.

Worst Dressed:
Natalie Portman
I love her, but this dress is just boring to me. Plus the tail part sticks out weird; it looks like she has a stuck propping it up. And the pink is just too pink for an award show like this.
Madonna
Honestly not a huge fan of Madonna and this dress just solidifies it haha. The top is gorgeous but the bottom is just hideous.
Maya Rudolph
This is just not flattering on her and for this type of event it's just too boring.
Sharon Osbourne
I never like this style of dress. There's just too much fabric! Something more form fitting would have been much better.
Sara Michelle Gellar
This dress is such a dissapointment! I love the pattern and it could have such potential but just like with Sharon Osbourne's dress there is way too much fabric!
Amanda Peet
This is horrible on so many levels. It looks like an old woman dress. Actually I don't think even my grandmother would wear this dress.
Kelly Osbourne
This isn't the worst of the night, but it just falls flat for me again. Just like at the People's Choice Awards!
Angelina Jolie
Another boring dress for me.I like how the red sticks out at the top but the rest of the dress is too simple for me.
Freida Pinto
This dress is just so unflattering. It looks like they just cut a huge strip of fabric, wrapped it around her and then added the belt to keep it put. The bottom need to be form fitting!
Lea Michelle
I appreciate the effort but I just personally don't like it.

There are a few I left out just because I didn't want this post to be too long!
